Broadforks and Permaculture

The Meadow Creature® Broadfork is an ideal tool for Permaculture. It allows aeration of soil without disturbing soil layers, enables you to dig up unwanted plants and plant those you want, and allows nutrients and water to circulate in the root systems of established perennials.

WHAT IS PERMACULTURE?

"What Permaculturalists are doing is the most important activity that any group is doing on the planet"    -Dr. David Suzuki

PERMACULTURE is a design philosophy that:

 - mimics nature

- looks at the interrelationship of many parts to create whole systems

- provides a path to recreating a horticultural society (that is, a culture based on Gardening rather than Farming)

- is focused on long-term sustainability and regenerativity

- is a way of creating harmony and balance within human communities and in the human/earth community.

(Notes from Toby Hemenway's Permaculture Design Class, Seattle 2013)

Permaculture Motto: While the problems remain complex, the solutions are remarkably simple.

Permaculture Resources

Gaia's Garden (Toby Hemenway) provides a good introduction to permaculture, with a west-coast focus.

Permaculture Handbook (Peter Bane) is more detailed.

Edible Forest Gardens (Dave Jacke with Eric Toensmeier) offers “a comprehensive exploration of vision, theory, design and practice.”

Permaculture Design Courses provide an introduction to the culture and ethos of permaculture. Permaculture Design Courses are available all over the world.
